The Illinois Health Care Association (IHCA) is a non-profit organization comprised of more than 500 licensed and certified long-term care facilities and programs throughout the state. Founded in 1950, IHCA is the oldest and largest association of its kind in Illinois. Its members are comprised of proprietary and non-proprietary facilities which represent skilled, intermediate care, developmentally disabled, skilled pediatric, assisted living and sheltered care levels of care. Total health care is provided to more than 31,000 people. IHCA leads in advocacy and education for its members to deliver responsive health care, residential and other related services. IHCA seeks to promote the highest standard of services in facilities and programs for the elderly and physically and mentally challenged. To achieve its goals, IHCA communicates with regulatory and legislative entities; works with other health and social service agencies; and provides its members with timely, ongoing information, comprehensive government relations services, communications expertise, community relations programs and continuing educational opportunities. HCA is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors elected by the association's membership. The association staff is led by an Executive Director, who oversees a staff responsible for implementing board and committee directives. Headquartered in Springfield, IHCA is an affiliate of the American Health Care Association (AHCA). Founded, in 1949, the AHCA represents 11,000 facilities serving more than one million residents nationwide.
