Checklist For Finding The Right Facility
Click below for a printable checklist of points to consider when evaluating a long-term care facility. Remember that the most important consideration in any choice is the individual's specific situation. Each resident - young, elderly, ambulatory or bed-ridden - has different needs, preferences and desires that must be taken into account in the selection of an appropriate facility.
You may want to print out the following checklist and complete it for each facility you visit. Then compare the lists against one another to determine which facility meets your needs most appropriately. One facility may stand apart from the others as the one best able to serve the needs of the resident.
When you feel definite about your choice, call the facility's admissions representative and arrange to sign the necessary admittance papers. Various records and paperwork will need to be provided for the care of the resident and for compliance with governmental regulations. Carefully read everything you are asked to sign. If you think you need legal advice, call your attorney. Never sign any document you don't understand. If you educate yourself about what to look for when choosing a long-term care facility, the more comfortable and confident you will feel in your choice.
