Gero Nurse Prep
Gero Nurse Prep was created with long term care nurses in mind. It is a nationally accredited, web-based continuing education program that not only provides RNs with the latest clinical knowledge, skills and competencies needed to care for the elderly, but it helps prepare them to successfully complete the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Certification Exam in Gerontological Nursing as well. Content in the course is planned out to ensure success in ANCC certification, and alums of the course have a 96% pass rate on the certification exam.
Research has shown that there has been a significant improvement in empowerment, knowledge, competence, collaboration, satisfaction and intent to remain for those nurses who become ANCC certified. Additionally, Analyses conducted by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) show that skilled nursing centers with RNs who have been certified in gerontological nursing by ANCC are twice as likely to have a 5-star rating from CMS.

Infection Preventionist Specialized Training (IPCO)
Now more than ever, it is critical to have an Infection Prevention Control Officer (IPCO) in your center/organization. With this in mind, AHCA/NCAL has launched version 2 of their IPCO training program. This program is a specialized course of study for individuals who desire to serve as Infection Preventionists (IPs) as established in the CMS Reform of Requirements of Participation for Long Term Care Facilities. Through this program, individuals will be specially trained to effectively implement and manage an Infection Prevention and Control Program in a nursing center.
This updated version incorporates information from the COVID-19 pandemic, the most recent regulatory requirements as well as sections on Candida auris, Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDROs) and Enhanced Barrier Precautions (EBP). Additionally, there is an entire section on how to get an effective water management program running in your center.
IHCA and AHCA are committed to ensuring nursing centers are fully prepared to meet the rigors of the new RoP requirements. This course is an online, self-study program with 25 hours of ANCC hours (22 hours of CE credit for Nursing Home Administration and Residential Care/Assisted Living Administration) and course participants have 12 months to complete the training. It includes online lectures, case studies and interactive components taught by an array of experts from around the country. To find out more, or to register, click here.
